To spend or not to spend? That’s always the tricky question, particularly this time of year. If thoughts of holiday parties has you calling every contractor in the book, take a minute to regroup.
Foreclosure News Suggests Caution
In light of foreclosure news, there is reason for many people to temper their enthusiasm and be cautious. That doesn’t mean you can’t spend a little to spruce up your holiday table or do a few home repairs. Just have a plan and stick with it.
If you’re planning bigger projects for next year, consider doing them in spurts. According to the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, phased remodeling is the way to go right now. Spreading your remodeling projects over time helps spread out the cost, but it also lets you live with one change before taking on another.
Stretch out the Painting Contractor
Let’s say you want to repaint your whole house. Phew. What an intense remodeling project. Whether you hire a contractor or do the work yourself, that’s a lot of paint and primer and moving furniture around. Why not start in one area, say the kitchen and breakfast room? (Plan the colors for the whole house, though, or they might not like each other when they meet in the middle!)
Once the kitchen area is done, sit back and enjoy it for awhile. Is the tone deep enough? Would a faux finish add just the right touch? Then call the painting contractor again. Because you have the overall plan, you can tweak away and have it all flow together.
Phasing in your remodeling can have many benefits…and the spending that goes along with it. Try it for awhile and see if your stress level decreases while your cash flow improves!
