The NSPI also takes a proactive approach to the maintenance of their industries reputation. They offer classes and seminars on all aspects of pool and spa building. They also provide:

  • Certification class in technical and business disciplines for pool and spa builders retailers and service companies.
  • They conduct market research.
  • Publish construction standards which have been adopted by the federal government.
  • They also sponsor the world's largest international trade show for the industry.

The certificates, gained through practical training and examination, are given out and are valid for five years. They must be followed up with any training updates and certification with new technology.

  • To achieve a Tech 1 Certification the pool builder must complete 40-hours of classroom and pass written proficiency exam.
  • To achieve a Tech II Certification the swimming pool builder must log 40 hours of classroom instruction and complete a written exam.
  • They must also have 5-years minimum experience in the pool industry.
  • They must attend a minimum of 40 hours of additional continuing education on the changing issues in the industry.
  • Most importantly they must pass the CSP exam a 4-hour closed book exam that measures competency in the area of pool and spa maintenance, service and care.
