Swimming Pool Glossary: Drain

The drain is affixed to the suction area of the pump in hot tubs, spas, and pools. Often called the main drain, it is placed in the water's deepest point. Despite its name, the main drain does not actually drain any waste. Instead, the main drain is connected with the pump to help circulate and filter water.

Waste actually moves into the filter and is then carried to another drain. This drain disposes of the waste.
