We moved into a great open floor plan loft with tall ceilings. The one problem was that aside from a few closets there was no storage space. We remedied the problem by building a storage room in the corner of the apartment. The new wall now serves as the backdrop for my husband's art/photography studio.
Here was how we approached the task:
1. Frame out the corners of room so that it opens to the front door; 4x4 post in the corner, create a loft for boxes and potential bed platform to add value to future tenants, ceiling of storage room to accommodate existing Metro shelving, anchor support beams against studs w/in walls.
2. Wall facing open studio should function as a shooting platform, utilize western exposure from widows 4, 5- frame the walls every 16in, add 1/2 in plywood to top.
3. Add drywall, apply mud and tape seams and corners.
4. Once painted and trimmed, start cramming all of our priceless crap into and on top of the new storage room.
5. Marvel at accomplishment.
