When we bought our house, our kitchen was a standard 1990's kitchen, complete with standard honey oak cabinets. The cabinets themselves were in great shape, but I didn't care for the finish or the fact that they had no moulding or trim whatsoever. To say they were plain would be an understatement! So my husband and I went to work on them, determined to give them a new life! We added trim work which included crown moulding, rope moulding, and trim for the bottom of the cabinets. I then painted them red and antiques them to give them much needed personality. They turned out even better than I personally expected and are just the look the old-fashioned look I'm going for:)
Our goal: To give our cabinets a custom look without emptying our bank account!
Our biggest challenge: We knew *nothing* about carpentry or doing trim work. This was a major trial and error project for us!
Our greatest accomplishment: Working through all the problems we had getting the trim pieces to come together "just right" and learning a lot along the way!
