~ Cottage Kitchen Ceiling: From Popcorn to Plank

Our old kitchen ceiling wasn't even a real sprayed popcorn ceiling - it was some kind of plaster made to LOOK like popcorn. The result was less than appealing, to say the least. What do you do when you have a texturally challenged ceiling? You cover it with tung and groove planks and then add box beams! That is just what we did and we are very pleased with the cottage charm it added to our kitchen. We bought our pine planks very cheaply at a flooring liquidator place for about $1.60 a square foot and then built our beams ourselves with pine boards. No more faux popcorn!
Our goal: To hide an eyesore of a ceiling while adding to the cottage style feel we were going for - and on a tight budget!
Our biggest challenge: Priming and painting, and painting and painting all those planks!
Our biggest accomplishment: Creating a cottage style kitchen ceiling for very little money!
