Goal: I have a very small backyard and from the day I moved in I had envisioned turning it into my own little garden sanctuary. I wanted to give it a tranquil setting to attract birds and butterflies and with no grass to mow!
Challenge: The biggest challenge was the fact that our yard is lower than the yards next and behind us and every time it rained much at all we had a terrible flood, we even had standing water just from the neighbors sprinklers. We had to factor drainage and downspouts into the equation.
Accomplishment: Sitting on my covered porch and actually seeing my dream come true. Now I feed all the birds around and the squirrels come to drink from my rock fountain in the evening.
Tips: I would definitely recommend installing a sprinkler system if you are doing any kind of landscaping. The drip worked especially well since we have no grass and just shrubs and such to keep moist. The other thing is if you don't mind buying floor displays you can oft times get a real bargain. We bought the exact hot tub we wanted but got extras worth $800 that included a stereo for less than the price quoted of a new one that would have had to be shipped from the factory. The only other advice is be patient, it always takes longer than you think it will!
