Home Theater Systems

So, you've decided to put together a home theater. You've chosen the theme for your room, you've picked out your home theater furniture and seating. Now the only thing holding you back is your home theater system.

An Individual
Before you buy any home theater electronics, you need to figure out what your intentions are. Do you already have some equipment and just want to expand your system by adding certain components? Is the equipment you have outdated and in need of an upgrade? If you've answered yes to either of these questions, then you will be an individual buyer.

Home Theater Systems As an individual buyer, your goal is to simply add to what you already have. This means that, instead of going out and buying a full home theater in a box system, you'd rather purchase one or two home theater speakers, perhaps a receiver and a better TV than the one you currently have.

What is convenient about this option is that you can customize your home theater system to meet all of your needs. You won't find yourself stuck with too much equipment or with items you have no use for. Which means you'll be able to have the best home theater system your home has ever seen.

Some items you may want to purchase include:

  • A DVD player (choices include a basic DVD player, DVD recorder, DVD/VCR player, DVD changer which will play multiple DVD's, or a portable DVD player)
  • Home theater speakers (choices include floor-standing speakers, bookshelf speakers, surround sound speakers and home theater satellite speakers)
  • A home theater receiver (this will serve as your headquarters for all your home theater equipment)
  • A television

Buying in Bulk
If you are completely new to home theaters, however, then you will likely need to buy everything (and if your TV is 15 years old, you'll probably want a new one of those, as well). But before you worry that a complete overhaul of your inadequate home entertainment system is going to cost you an arm and a leg, relax! Nowadays, you can get a high quality home theater system for a very affordable price, no matter what your budget.
