Use Bathroom Design to Enhance a Small Space

If a small bathroom has you in a quandary, don't worry. There are plenty of ways to use decorating to make your bathroom appear larger. You can complete most of the following home improvement projects without using a contractor.
Paint Solves Bathroom Design Issues
A fresh coat of paint can do wonders for any room, particularly a small space. You can do this home improvement project by yourself if you have some time and patience. Otherwise, turn it over to a painting contractor and watch the transformation. Among the options are:
- Think beyond basic white to a crisp linen or soft cream. Light colored paint makes the room look larger.
- Paint the ceiling a shade lighter than the walls to help draw the eyes up.
- Raise the ceiling by adding a wallpaper border or design near the ceiling.
Declutter Bathroom Design
Clutter is one of the biggest obstacles to home improvement and can doom a small bathroom design. Look around your bathroom for ways to:
- Keep towels and accessories enclosed. Can you add wall shelving with doors or a narrow floor storage unit?
- Eliminate some knick-knacks.
- Remove floor standing toilet paper holders; install a wall one.
Add Mirrors to Bathroom Design
Decorative mirrors also can enhance a small bathroom design. Try an oval or rectangular mirror over the sink, framed with wood or a metal that matches your hardware. Or, hang a series of small mirrors on the wall.
Bathroom Cabinetry Options
Light colored cabinets also make a room look larger. Try adding a white bathroom vanity with two doors. The cabinet will add storage, so you can move freestanding items inside and reduce clutter. Those with limited carpentry and plumbing skills should hire a contractor for this piece of the renovation.
In a powder room, consider a streamlined pedestal sink, which requires less space than a traditional vanity, but offers few storage options.
